Expensify Mileage Tracking | 4 Methods Demonstrated

Stephen Brown, Chief Operating Officer2 min

Expensify gives you four ways to log business mileage, three on mobile and one on the web. Stephen Brown demonstrates each: GPS tracking that runs while you drive, odometer readings you enter at both ends of a trip, straight manual distance entry, and a web based option that calculates the distance from a start and finish address. Pick whichever fits how you actually work.

0:00 Three methods on mobile

Let's explore the four methods to do mileage tracking with Expensify, starting with the mobile app, where you'd click on the start GPS button.

When you click on this button, it'll give you the ability to start the GPS. It will use the phone's GPS to track your movement in a vehicle. When you're done, you click the stop button. That will log the final location, calculate the mileage, and you're done.

The next method is using the odometer. You'd simply click on the odometer button, and from here you can put in a start and an end reading, which will calculate the total distance. And then you can enter that as an expense for mileage.

The final method that you could use on your mobile app is a manual entry, where you'd simply put in the distance that you traveled using some other method that you can use to calculate distance. Simply put in the distance, put in the distance rate, and you're done.

Now let's explore creating mileage in the web app. Here in the web app we have the ability to put in the mileage manually, or you can create a receipt from the map. You'd put in the start address and a finish address, click update, click save, and it'll calculate the distance that was traveled. You'd simply enter the rest of the information, and then you have your mileage tracking there.
